George L. Erdei - Pastor of a "Church Without Walls''

Quotes from Sermons & Teachings

* Hearing from God

"You don't have to be in a church building to hear from God or for God to hear from you"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
* Wisdom
"Any knowledge we obtain, any wisdom we acquire, any success we achieve is only due to the goodness and faithfulness of God through Christ Jesus."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

* Wisdom & Knowledge

"I would much rather have wisdom than knowledge; although the two often work hand in hand. There are many who are knowledgeable about certain things. However, there are fewer people who have extraordinary wisdom. Having wisdom is the ability to transform knowledge into practical ideas and useful applications that enhance our lives. I have found that the more one knows God, the more wisdom one obtains - because God is the source and distributor of all wisdom."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
* Success
"The success of a person is not measured by the size of ones bank account, the strength of their retirement portfolio, their choice of a career, their social status, nor the number of material processions they acquire. Success is not measured by how popular, highly skilled or famous one becomes.
Success is measured by the lives one touches; loving their spouse, providing for their children, extending true friendship to others, caring for the needy, and speaking words of encouragement to the disheartened.
In the end, all material things will wither, rot or rust away. All that lasts are intrinsic qualities like faith, hope and love. A person is truly successful when they have developed strong and abiding relationships - these things alone will endure forever."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

* Integrity

"One of the characteristics I appreciate most in a person is INTEGRITY; when they stand firm on their moral principles and honesty is their standard. When they promise to do something - they follow through and actually do it. A person of integrity will always choose to do the right thing. You can count on them! They are genuine and never pretentious. They keep their word no matter the cost. Nothing, I repeat, NOTHING, will destroy a persons trust more quickly than a failure in the area of integrity."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
* Friendship
“Characteristics of a true friend: A true friend will - love you when times are good, times are bad and everything in between. Lift you up when you’re down. Challenge and correct you when you’re wrong. Believe in you when you don't believe in yourself. Never desert you. Hold you up and defend you when you’re weak. Care for you when you're sick or depressed. Come to your rescue. Guide you to the truth. Lay down their life for you. - I am so thankful for the friendship of Jesus.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

*Determination

"With each new day comes an opportunity to make this world a better place. All it takes is determination. God has been gracious to give us another day. Let's make the most of it. Enthusiasm is contagious. Faith eliminates fear. Love conquers hate. Hope delivers anticipation. Good triumphs over evil. Joy defeats sadness. Trust restores confidence. Peace shatters anxiety. One positive life can touch another and bring about remarkable results. There's no better time to start than today!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*Life - God's Way
In 1969, Frank Sinatra had a hit song entitled, "My Way." It was written by Paul Anka. Personally, I never liked the message of the song. It was a sad commentary about our reason for living. Here are some of the lyrics:
And now, the end is near,
And so I face the final curtain.
My friends, I'll say it clear;
...I'll state my case of which I'm certain.
I've lived a life that's full -
I've traveled each and every highway.
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.
At the end of my life, I would much rather say, "I did it God's way! I accomplished His will and not my own." To me, choosing to plot out our own course in life leads to selfishness, a lack of purpose and eventually destruction. The greatest mistake anyone could ever make is to choose to exist completely independent from God; never allowing Him to be the Lord of their life. As merciful and forgiving as God is, even He will not forgive such a rebellious choice.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

*Thinking (Ideas)

"Since everything begins with a thought (idea), as leaders it's our responsibility to birth, encourage and nurture fresh ideas. We serve a God that is so astonishingly imaginative, innovative and creative. As believers in Him, we need to lead the way in creative thinking instead of leaving that process to a profane, secular society."

To the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.

Why Go To Church?

Every Sunday many people go to church while others are sleeping or engaged in other weekend activities. Since our weekends are limited, should we spend part of it in church? Let's look at some of the popular reasons for not going first.

Excuse: Church is boring.

"It is repetitious, predictable and a meaningless ritual. I would rather sleep in. I work hard all week and I deserve it!"

Answer:
Church is repetitious but so is life. The days of our lives are structured around cycles of work, eating, family and recreation times. Any of these activities can become boring if we don't strive to find something interesting or enjoyable about them. Sunday mornings at church are a time to make new friends and renew old ones; to learn about the Bible and share problems as well as to thank God for another week of life.

The objective in going to church is to seek to build our relationship with God and others. Many people go to church to fulfill an obligation through some ritual and so are reduced to actions without meaning. Church worship is all about an encounter with God and others that changes who we are. Not going to church on a Sunday morning because you deserve a sleep-in does not explain why you miss church on Saturday or Sunday night. The problem is much deeper than the time of the day - it is a matter of selfishness.

Excuse: Why bother going to church when all they want is money!?

Answer: If you choose to get involved in any kind of group, be it the PTA, Boy Scouts or whatever, it will cost you in time and money. It is true that, if you don't get involved in anything, you will have maximum control of your time and money. However, you will miss friendships and opportunities to be a good influence in the lives of others. Each of us decides where to spend our time and money. Each of us will either invest it in some purpose or waste it on the pleasures of the moment. Jesus said that there is an eternal investment that will not fade, rust or decay when we do good works that show our love for God and others (Matthew 6:19-20).

Ponder this! You do not control your life. You cannot guarantee that you will be alive the next week, day, hour or moment. Human life is a gift from God and He controls the measure of it (Psalm 139:16). Our intelligence, talents and appearance are largely determined by genetics (which is to say by God who made us individually unique). Therefore, who we are, when and where we are born, how long we live, etc., are all gifts from God. Is it unreasonable for God to ask for a portion of it to acknowledge Him and His sovereignty?

Excuse: People who go to church are a bunch of hypocrites!

Answer: Churchgoers pretend to be good for a few hours on Sunday morning but they are like everyone else the rest of the week. A common misunderstanding about church is that it should somehow make us better people. As discussed above, it is not the action of going to church, but the encounter with God and others that changes our lives for the better. Most people who go to church do not understand this and thus do not seek to have life changing experiences through worship and church activities.

Christians are humans who believe that Jesus is God and that He has made us acceptable to Himself by paying the penalty for our sins on the cross (Romans 6:23). Therefore, what makes Christians unique is not the outward appearance but what God has done on the inside by changing the soul and mind (2 Corinthians 5:17). Those who sincerely call upon Jesus to save them from their sins experience a spiritual birth that gradually transforms the mind and behavior conforming us to His will (John 1:12; Romans 12:1-2).

Christians can be seen to be hypocrites more easily than someone who does not profess any beliefs because Christian standards are defined in the Bible, whereas personal standards can be changed to fit circumstances or are unknown to others. The bottom line is that all humans are hypocrites because we all fail to consistently live up to any standards of behavior that are defined. The difference is that Jesus forgives the hypocrisy of believers and has sent His Holy Spirit to guide and transform those who know Him as Savior and confess Him as Lord (Romans 10:9-10).

Excuse: Church is unnecessary since private prayer and Bible study can be done without others.

Answer: The Bible says that believers must not keep apart from other believers (Hebrews 10:24-25). It is true that we are influenced and become like the people we associate with. Also, by getting together, common beliefs are affirmed and ways to overcome problems are shared. There are three spiritual pillars to have a strong Christian life: personal prayer, Bible study and fellow believers. To rely on less than all three is like trying to sit on a one or two-legged stool. Three legs are needed for a firm foundation and proper function.

Excuse: Churches impose a bunch of rules and then make you feel guilty if you don't measure up.

Answer:
One of the biggest reasons for the breakdown of families is the lack of moral standards. Most people who call themselves Christians cannot even say the Ten Commandments much less live by them. Without moral standards, it is easier to do your own thing and not feel guilty about it. Guilt is part of our conscience and is a gift from God to help us do good.

It is true that sometimes people make us feel guilty. During these times it is important to seek God's view through prayer and reading the Bible. This means it is necessary to be familiar with the Bible enough to discern whether others are making us feel guilty or if God is trying to get our attention. I am convinced that there are many Christians who are doing good works out of guilt rather than because they want to love and serve God.

Hebrews 10:25
Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Satan’s Plan to Destroy You

As a Christian you are under attack by the enemy, Satan. We are to know our enemy and his tactics. Here are some of the things Satan uses to make a Christian ineffective. Be aware and don't fall prey to the enemy.

Doubt – Makes you question God’s word and His goodness.

Discouragement – Makes you look at your problems rather than at God.

Division – Makes the wrong things seem attractive so that you will want them more than the right things.

Defeat – Makes you feel like a failure so you don’t even try.

Delay – Makes you put off doing something so that it never gets done.

1 Peter 5:8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

10 Ways to Overcome Sin

1. By the power of the Spirit, believers must obey God’s law, the Ten Commandments. When Jesus was asked, “What is the greatest commandment?” he answered, “‘Love the Lord with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ . . . And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments” (Matt. 22:37–40). There is no way to get away from the Ten Commandments. Jesus also said, “If you love me, you will obey what I command” (John 14:15). Paul instructs, “He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need” (Eph. 4:28). God has not abrogated the Ten Commandments, even though we may want him to do so.

2. As Christians, make no provision for the flesh (Rom. 13:14). In other words, starve your sinful nature to death. Remember the Ephesians, who took all their sorcery materials and burned them up (Acts 19:17–20). We must vigorously destroy whatever things cause us to sin.

3. Recognize that sinning Christians do not evangelize. Such people cannot father spiritual children. The purpose of salvation is that we declare the praises of him who called us out of darkness into the marvelous light, as Peter tells us: “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nations, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy” (1 Pet. 2:9-10). But sinning Christians will never share their faith. If we are not sharing, it is because we are sinning.

4. Meditate on Scripture. Paul exhorts, “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Col. 3:2). The Hebrews writer says, “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and [finisher] of our faith” (Heb. 12:2). Doing so will help us to kill sin.

5. Pray for grace and receive it. We are encouraged to draw near to “the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Heb. 4:16). James says, “God . . . gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6). Jesus said, “My grace is sufficient for you” (2 Cor. 12:9).

6. Use the sword of the Spirit to kill sin as Jesus did when he was tempted, telling Satan, “It is written.”

7. Be concerned not only about our own sanctification but also about the sanctification of others because we are one body. If we see our brother sinning, we must rebuke him. We have a responsibility to our brothers and sisters. Jesus himself said, “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten” (Rev. 3:19, author’s translation).

8. Daily train in godliness. Just as Olympic athletes train themselves for years, we also must train ourselves daily in godliness because unlike physical training, training in godliness is profitable for this life and the life to come (2 Tim. 4:8). We train by doing the right thing for a long time until it becomes our habit. This includes rising early, praying, reading the Bible, and obeying God.

9. Keep in mind that the bride of Christ is holy, not a harlot, and live accordingly.

10. If God justifies us, he will also sanctify us, even if he has to kill us. I recently heard a Catholic priest say, “I would like to die because then I would not sin.” That is true. If we remain stubborn after God has justified us, he will deal with us. Paul writes, “That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep” (1 Cor. 11:30).

7 Steps to Effective Evangelism

The good news we are to share is the death, burial and resurrection of Christ that has brought salvation to all men, in a nutshell it is the message of John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave us His only begotten Son…”

Here’s 7 steps for more effective evangelism…

1. Know your audience and tailor the message to them, don’t just do things the way you always do. Take the gospels as an example of this, there are 4 accounts each tailored to a specific audience, addressing the needs of each group. But the message remains consistent (i.e. Jesus Christ is the Saviour of the World).

2. Be Spirit led (Acts 16:6, 9-10). Paul wanted to go to Asia but the Spirit forbade Him. He was led to Macedonia (Europe) and that’s where the ministry was effective. Likewise, Philip was led into the desert to the Ethiopian (Acts 8), it seemed crazy to leave a thriving Samaritan revival and go into a desert of Gaza, but that’s where he was led and as a result the gospel travelled down into Africa with the Ethiopian.

3. Be burdened. According to 1 Cor 13 the gifts work by love. Without love and a burden for souls we won’t reach them.

4. Preach Jesus. Be single minded in your message. It should be Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Don’t preach your pastor, your church rules, politics or anything else – focus on Jesus and esp. what He has done / means to you.

5. Be empowered (Acts 1:8). Without the indwelling Holy Spirit you can not be an effective witness for Christ.

6. Be agreed. Imagine if Peter & John did not agree at the Gate Beautiful, imagine if Peter wanted to go to get some cash, while John wanted to pray for him. Thanks be to God they both said: silver and gold have we none, but such as we have we freely give, rise up and walk in Jesus Name. Make sure you are walking with people who agree on doctrine when you go out to share the faith.

7. Have faith (Mark 16:16-18). Believe that souls will respond to the call. There’s nothing worse than an unbelieving evangelist… why bother? The excuse that ‘we told them so they can’t say they didn’t hear the gospel on judgement day’ simply is not good enough. Everyone won’t respond positively to the call, but as good stewards we should be of the view that with God NOTHING shall be impossible.

Ephesians 6:11-17

Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

2 Chronicles 7:14

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

"Meet Me in the Stairwell"
Where was God on 9/11/2001?

Honoring the Victims of the 9/11 Attacks -Author Unknown

        You say you will never forget where you were when you heard the news On September 11, 2001. Neither will I.

        I was on the 110th floor in a smoke filled room with a man who called his wife to say 'Good-Bye.' I held his fingers steady as he dialed. I gave him the peace to say, 'Honey, I am not going to make it, but it is OK..I am ready to go.'

        I was with his wife when he called as she fed breakfast to their children. I held her up as she tried to understand his words and as she realized he wasn't coming home that night.

        I was in the stairwell of the 23rd floor when a woman cried out to Me for help. 'I have been knocking on the door of your heart for 50 years!' I said. 'Of course I will show you the way home - only believe in Me now.'

        I was at the base of the building with the Priest ministering to the injured and devastated souls. I took him home to tend to his Flock in Heaven. He heard my voice and answered.

        I was on all four of those planes, in every seat, with every prayer. I was with the crew as they were overtaken. I was in the very hearts of the believers there, comforting and assuring them that their faith has saved them.

        I was in Texas, Virginia, California, Michigan, Afghanistan. I was standing next to you when you heard the terrible news. Did you sense Me?

        I want you to know that I saw every face. I knew every name - though not all knew Me. Some met Me for the first time on the 86th floor.

        Some sought Me with their last breath. Some couldn't hear Me calling to them through the smoke and flames; 'Come to Me... this way... take my hand.' Some chose, for the final time, to ignore Me. But, I was there.

        I did not place you in the Tower that day. You may not know why, but I do. However, if you were there in that explosive moment in time, would you have         reached for Me?

        Sept. 11, 2001, was not the end of the journey for you. But someday your journey will end. And I will be there for you as well. Seek Me now while I may be found. Then, at any moment, you know you are 'ready to go.'

I will be in the stairwell of your final moments.
God
